I probably shouldn't be left unattended without a plan. This morning I put my baby muffins on the bus and took Lilly for a walk.
My sister-Any plans today?
Me-Nah....
While still out walking the dog I start texting people who I hope are awake and looking for a shuttle. I have been wanting to do this trail from one end to the other but once I park my car I need a ride to the other end.
I am ready to just go and work on a ride while I hike if needed but as I walk out the door, backpack in hand, Grampa returned my call.
What's up, honey?
SCORE!! I left my car at Goodwill park and hitch a ride back to the trail start on Rt 151 by the highway exit.
Once I make it past all the fucking tires, maybe a dozen, I enjoy the trail immensely except for the highway noise. I knew this would be the case as i can see Route 28 for a good portion of the first 2 miles. Although the picture sucks I hope you can see the 4 turkeys that crossed the trail.
I had information that a place at the end of the first section before you come to Thomas Landers rd crossed over private property and that owner wasn't very friendly. When I went to the 300 committee's office for a map last year I made sure to ask about it. I was told that the trail was re-routed around and now included a bit of road walking but avoided this area.
When I came to this split in the trail I will admit I was a little spooked. Red!! Like danger??
I just went about following the white blaze. About 10-15 feet down the trail I remember what this is about. I must be at that re-route place.
This would be why getting up to date info on trails is important. Don't be afraid to ask.
I was hoping to document the times it took me to do each section.
First section 2.9 miles in 1hr 16 minutes.
I love this photo as it shows just what I am about. The wider more used trail runs right to left but as in life I take the road less traveled.
Wait a minute?? I'm at the Service Rd?? That means I have covered 3 sections in 2 hours and 17 minutes. I cruised through Collins Lot without even realizing it.
Funniest part is I noted some poison ivy which I was warned about and I was thinking Oh I must be getting close. Nope Dope, you cruised right through.
The next section is one I know well. It is way ingrown since the last time I was here. I think I have decided I like it better in the snow.
During this hike like this morning I was of course thinking about Fall plans. I haven't hiked as much but I reminded myself it has been hot as shit. fall is my ramp up so I need to get moving. Miles on the feet and weight in the pack.
A group I belong to is planning a weekend hike trip and a possible hike of Mount Washington in October. I only need to pay $50 to stay in the house for the weekend. Sounds like I need to get my ass in gear.
