Camping in Vermont

First of all, this was one of the best traveling partners I could have asked for. He had never done most of what we made him do and he just rocked it. We packed the truck and strapped him in and were on the road at the crack of dawn....before 7 maybe. It is all a whirlwind which I mostly didn't even look at my watch for. That was exactly what the weekend was supposed to be about.
We had a plan to get to the Harpoon BBQ Championship. We made a few stops along the way an till got there about an hour before the gates opened. You know what ? I became a person who just took their time. We walked the dog, found some Adirondack chairs and chilled then we chatted it up with others waiting in line.
We ate and walked and took breaks and ate and let people love up on Mugsy. We can't go anywhere with out that happening. Sadly the picture above was a lie and my heart broke a little. The kid says we changed it this year-it is pulled pork sprinkler with brown sugar and then deep fried. So no bacon? Sorry no. PASS! I will say we were not eating sugar anyway so this would have been a big rule breaker. After a few hours we called it a day and made some choices on things we wanted to take home. Trust me we had a plan. I had a backpack on and we brought zip lock bags so we went to the places we liked and bought a few things. We packed salad and fruit and yogurt and now we had ribs and brisket and sausages. Delish!
Once we got the the campground it was quick work to set up camp so we decided to take the path from the campground to Rt 4 so I could show Dave and Mugsy the view from the Bridge. Breathtaking!

Once we got to the bottom Mugs was not too thrilled to be begged, cajoled, bribed to come out to the edge of the river but he did it and took a swim. ( not thrilled would be the best description). I didn't have my bathing suit on but stuck my feet in and it was awesome. Our plan was to return for a swim later or the next day. Mother nature put the nix on that unfortunately.

This was the route back on the campers only path to the campground. Beautiful and not for the faint at heart in the hiking department. Loved it all.
Back at the site this was our set-up. And after a much needed shower for me this was what Mugsy looked like-a snoring little rag doll who needed some cuddle time. Now time for some reheated BBQ and a salad for dinner. We were starving.

After waking to some mild rain we found that the forecast had changed. We were now looking at about an 80% chance of rain with some thunder and lightning and 1-2 inches of rain overnight. We made the decision to pack up camp. Perfect timing as we pulled up to the gate to tell the heavens opened up and it poured and the thunder started. I love storms but on the ground is not where I want to sleep in 2 inches of rain.
Over breakfast in the coolest little diner we made the decision to meander. Wherever we wanted and just drive. We came across some cool places and just stopped wherever along the way. The sky cleared up as you can see.

We switched off if we wanted to go inside places so Mugsy got plenty of sight seeing himself.

Our road trip ended but we both agreed we were not ready for it to be over so after a dinner of the rest of the BBQ we dashed out to a 9pm showing of Lucy in Braintree. If you can get to a movie there I suggest it. All I will say is RECLINERS!
I will finish up this epic post by saying it was one of the best trips I have had in a long time. I had some great company who rolled with it like I do. Hoping the good feelings last as long as possible.
