So we did it today.
Nana is in her own place. She has some more stuff here in the basement but her storage is empty and probably 3/4 of her stuff is out of here.
I really thought it would be harder. This morning I started to feel sad. I don't do emotions. They needed to go to the dark place for now so I could get this done.
In the end after the guys left us standing in a mass of boxes I started to open some just to move the extra stuff she didn't need to the basement and that is when it happened, we laughed. In these boxes were pictures of me as a kid, at my prom, Chelsea in dance costumes and Katie with big hair in High School. She reminded me that I packed her into these boxes and she didn't even know what was in most of them. I had forgotten that. Every box was going to be a surprise.
I left her in a mess but settled enough that she could sleep tonight and eat leftover pizza for dinner while she peeked in boxes. She needs to come pick up a few things to get to work tomorrow but she is officially on her own. I thought I would be scared for her but actually I felt good. She will finally be able to stretch out her legs and have her own stuff again. She has been in our space for too long.
It feels sort of like letting one of my kids go but she is my Mother.
