It is not that I think I am a bad parent-I would just like to be a better one. I don't think my kids are bad-I need to improve my reaction to them. I just don't want to yell anymore.
I hear the words come out of my mouth and I cringe. Isn't half the battle knowing you have a problem? Well, I am standing up in front of the class and saying:Hi, My name is Jennifer and I am a yeller.
I sort of remember when this started. Before Dad was the yeller and I was the sweetheart. Then I kept being told that they didn't listen to me because I let them get away with murder. So I began to raise my voice and put my foot down. I essentially went from being my Mom to being my Dad. Great!
Also Mom's plate was/is full. I do things which I think will make my life easier but in reality I am creating 2 beasts. They expect things done for them and done now, damn it. They also don't know it is wrong as it is all they know. Funny thing is if I give them jobs they love that crap. They actually fight over it. Feed the cat and feed the fish are a battle of "I want to do it. It is my job." Now if I could only get dishes and laundry to be that exciting. ;)
So it is a work in progress and if everything goes as planned I may figure out what the hell I am doing by the time my grand kids are born.
