Letterboxing

BTW- Multiple posts as I am alone on the Midnight shift and BORED!!

LETTERBOXING is an intriguing pastime combining navigational skills and rubber stamp artistry in a charming "treasure hunt" style outdoor quest. A wide variety of adventures can be found to suit all ages and experience levels. Click on the desktop items above to explore this fast-growing hobby.

I came across this by accident and it seems kind of geeky/cool at the same time. I admit lots of things I think are cool are geeky but I am perfectly fine with this.
The snipet above comes from the Letterboxing website. Basically you have to follow the directions listed on the website to a hidden box. When you find the box you should leave your stamp in the notebook in the box to mark you have found their box. You should also hide it again so the box doesn't get found easily by a non- letterboxer. You can also place a letterbox if you want and see what kind of stamps you get. True letterboxers make their own stamp but that may be above our age group so I was thinking of taking the kids to a craft store and allowing them to pick out one they like.

I decided to post about this as it is one of my goals for the Summer. I am looking for things to get our asses off the couch and outside. I also thought it would be a cool way to find new places on Cape Cod. There are many boxes listed on the website up and down the Cape.

Maybe I need to get a pie stamp to mark my territory.

I have decided on my first letterbox. I thought it was right up my alley to start with a box that pays tribute to Milton Hershey. The maker of Hershey's Chocolate.

I will keep you up to date of my latest crazy crusade.

I do Geocaching, which is along the same lines. It's great fun! Every now and then I'll come across a letter box in my searches for geocaches. I wish I could do more of it! Good luck and happy hunting!
