Kindergarten Registration

Today was the big day for Kindergarten registration. We had to sit for about an hour while introduced to many people that will be caring for our kids while they are in schoool. All day kindergarten in our town now.
My daughter started going to a small but school oriented preschool when she was about 2 and this year she is going to the Preschool Title 1 program at our local elemantary school 5 mornings a week. We decided to change her to the school for money reasons but after a little thought we decided it would be a good step towards her going to school full time next year.
My question to those parents that may be reading is this-Did you forget when your child was 5 they would be going to school?? I guess that seems rude but I sat there listening and few questions came to mind but some Mom's were just nuts. They wanted the complete days plan to "prep" the kid. At the end of the speech they took the kids on a short 5 minute bus ride. The kids were all waving and thinking they were too cool to be riding without seatbelts. Only a few parents were trying to edge onto the bus and 1 even had to take her screaming child off the bus in a panic attack.( mind you this was the parent asking for a freaking daily schedule)
I finally found my place in the back with the parents that were chatting and glad to see their kids off. Celebrating the full day kindrgarten our taxes are paying for.
Am I a lax parent?? No. I do love my kids with all my heart but isn't our job to allow them to grow to be independant people. Someday I want to be packing my kid off to college to try it on her own-without Mom getting the full itinerary in advance. Life does not have a pre-plan that is for sure.
All in all- I was happy with the school and their plan to keep my kid happy and safe but also let her figure it out on her own. Oh don't worry, I will be the sucker crying on the side of the road September 4th after she rides off on the big yellow bus-without her seatbelt on.
