FINALLY I got back to Blue Hills. I wanted a good place to really stretch my legs and the day could not have been better. The temp was perfect. The sky was crystal clear.
I took a friend who had never been there and probably talked his ear off. I also was surprised at the amount of people I saw on the Skyline trail but it was a great day and it was a Sunday.
We hikes up to Elliot Tower and took in the view then over to the Weather Observatory. I had walked around this building but did not know there was a store or that you could take a tour.
Amazing doesn't even express what I saw from the top of the building. Visibility was about 70 miles and he pointed out many places I had hiked. Mt Watchusett, Pack Monadnock and Mt Monadnock.
Geek, I know but I was excited.
We could see the ocean, the Boston skyline and as far as Providence, RI.
He also explained the weather gadgets all around us. This one was my favorite. It was a beautiful glass globe and everyday they put a strip of paper under it. As the sun shown through that globe it would burn into the paper and that was how they measured how much sun occurred each hour of the day.
On the way out of the store I picked up a book about a Mother and her daughters and there adventures peak bagging in the White Mountains. I think it is a true story and can't wait to read it with the girls. I also picked up this patch and am thinking about starting to add them to my pack. Remember I was a girl scout with many badges on my sash.
On the way back we enjoyed the sound of this brook in many places and decided to get off trail and go up and over this rock. All in all it was a great trip for me. I can home tired and hungry and to me that is a successful trip.
