180 degree day

Yesterday was a day of all days.
I had worked out a swap so I could go with Olivia's class of their field trip to the Cape Cod Canal. I really was interested in learning about this as well and I learned a lot about the canal and the travel of boats through it. I did not learn a lot about the building of it as they worked on that in class so I may need to do my own homework.
It was a beautiful yet cold day.

This beautiful girl is Star of the week and she decided to pick out her own clothes. She would not listen when I tried to explain that the dress was in the donate pile because it was too small. I have learned, it just isn't worth it. She is awesome and stubborn so you just roll with it.
We noticed this new play toy at the East Falmouth school last week and the kids really wanted to play on it so after leaving our own school we headed there for a bit. I really don't know how we survived the Winter and the darkness so early. We were here until 5ish climbing and playing with a really cool dog who loves to chase balls.

On the way home we got to talking about dogs. We would really love a dog in our family but it is a tough grown up decision to make to know that not having one is really the best choice. We dog sit occasionally and it is just a good indication that we wouldn't be able to give the dog a good life. The kids don't understand but I see it. We are busy and often not home for long periods of time. 2 major issues if you have a dog. It just isn't fair. We also get into a pretty serious conversation about how it is sad when you lose a pet because if you love them they become part of your family not just an animal. We talked about great memories we had of Fatcat and Kohl.
When we got home I am unloading all our car crap and they come running out to the car yelling that Ted won't move. Well, frequently I have seen these poor hamsters dragged from their slumber when the kids want to play so I say let me look.
Oh no, he was gone.
These girls scramble into action. He needs a funeral!!! I sort of stood back and assisted them with whatever they needed. This was the outcome. It was placed on the side of the house so Ava could see it from her window. We each spoke some fond memories and Ava and I sat outside for a bit.
She really is a sweet and gentle hearted little girl under that gruff exterior.

I later found Ava cleaning out the cage by herself. (Sound like anyone else you know?) I asked if she was Ok and if she needed some help. We cleaned it together and for now I think she will be putting her birthday fish in it. She asked to keep the Welcome Home Ted stickers that Auntie put on the side and of course she can.
