I started out by walking a bit around Woods hole to warm up and stretch. Once I got my Ipod and timer watch all set I headed to the starting line and Ooops - the draw bridge is going up. That was all cool as I had not seen it function since it was replaced last year. Surprisingly it went up silently. No boats around so it appeared to be a test run.
The route was surprisingly hard. Of course the distance was more than I was used to but it was full of hills. I took a left onto School St and just began the long run uphill. It wound through the curves of Quissett Ave. and the Woods Hole Golf Course. I love to drive this road. I then took a right onto Oyster Pond Rd and began to feel it. I knew I was only about 2.5 miles into it. At the end of this road I took a right again which dumped me just before the 3 mile marker for the Falmouth Road Race. This was about 35 minutes into it.
From then on it was more walking than running but it felt great to be outside and the sky was beautiful. Above is just after the Lighthouse and just before the 1 mile marker. At this point I am basically doing the 1st 3 miles of the road race backwards. I was really counting down the miles here.
I made my way back into Woods Hole feeling good and hungry. I was spending more time enjoying the sights and snapping pictures like this perfect sign of Spring.
It took a total of 1hr and 20 minutes including a few breaks and about 20 or so photos. I dumped all of my change into this meter without it going up before I finally read "Quarters Only". Only got 30 minutes and just crossed my fingers when I left. As you can see that didn't work. My debt to society and the Town of Falmouth-10 Bucks. I could have registered for the race for $15.
Today is another story. Snow, Wind, Cold, ect. That is Ok as my muscles are sore and I have laundry to catch up on.I will be keeping my eye on the Cool Runnings and Falmouth Track Club calenders for some upcoming 5K's and work towards the Falmouth Road Race.
