I Hate Cancer!

We lost our friend yesterday.
He was my age and definitely too young to go. He has children around the same age as mine so it all seems too close to home. I didn't know him very well but the wives see each other at birthday parties and such occasions. I know this has been tough and his wife has done a great job holding up the home front. I am not sure I would have been able to do that.
This has brought up so many thoughts and fears of my own.
I can not even imagine explaining to my children that Dad is gone. This has made me want to round up the wagons and keep my kids close to me. We stayed close to home last night and today and it felt good. It is almost a guilty feeling that we can still do this when they can't.
Luckily she has a huge amount of support from family and friends.
I can't think of anything to say that could possibly express how sad I am for their loss.

I read this post and stared at the words. I have a little bit of personal knowledge on the subject, but no real words of wisdom. I will say that I believe this type of loss is a bit different than sudden loss. Not that it's easier. Just different.

You're right. It sucks. Big time. I had to stuff my ear buds in and let the music take me for this one.

Those of us that have to live without the ones we love must go on. In your friend's case, his wife has to go on for the kids. For herself. And they never truly leave us. Most of my memories are good. Every time I see a tomato on the vine, or an egg in the nest box, or smell a certain food, or hear a particular song I can think of my folks. I'd be hard pressed to have a day go by without one of these moments. I consider my self lucky to have been old enough to have these memories. I'd give just about anything to have been able to make more memories with them, but you go on without them. For them.

You grieve. You get angry. You laugh. You cry. You get really angry. You go on. It isn't easy.

Keep your family close.

Talking with you yesterday and reading your post today left a pit in my belly. It is difficult and life is short. Everyone needs to live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment and say the I love yous and the I'm sorrys because we never know when it will be the last word.
I am so sorry for your friends and they are in my prayers. The only thing I can suggest is offer a hand while she is going through this tough time. (Make a frozen dinner). Like B said - it is going to be a roller coaster for her and the kids.
(Oh and B - Thanks for making me tear up at work)** Hug **
