I started my day with a great person on Freecycle posting that she had lilacs to give away. My friend Bonnie and I were on the case. We left with a large branch covered with blooms for vases and 2 sucklings to plant. We each got 1 purple and 1 white. I am a huge lilac fan. It is one of my favorite scents.
After this great find I headed home the long way and hit a couple yard sales. No Luck.
Next the girls and I hit a plant sale at a local church. We picnicked on a hot dog under a large pine tree. We left there with a tray of impatients and a pink lily.
When I got home the kids wanted to play outside so I decided to tackle some yard work. I have wanted to rip up the grass along the back side of the house and make a garden for something besides grass that the lawn mower can't reach and 4 ft tall dandelions. So I tackled removing it all with a pitchfork. Boy was that a workout. I dragged all the grass clumps out to the wagon and had myself a nice little garden-Hmmmm ... What to do with it??
I decided to dig up a lonely patch of Rosa Sharons that were a little misplaced in a tiny garden out front. I really want to make that a rose garden but never got around to moving these beasts. Well today I did. They were a B@#$$% to remove as the roots had started to grow under the asphalt driveway.
Now they are separated into my garden out back into about 7 separate plantings. They are thin but grow super fast and flower so I am hoping them will add some color in an otherwise naked backyard. I think I will work in some flowers in the bottom around these to add some additional color.
I was just informed by the Old Man that the dirt will soon be hyrdo-seeded and grass should follow. I can't wait.
Tomorrow I will try to get out with the kids again. After the double shifts it has been about 3 days since I saw the kids so I have some serious Mommy time to make up for. I have 2 plans tomorrow( 3 actually or wait 4 plans)
1. 1st day of running program
2. I promised Olivia some beach time-Hopefully the Knob or Woodneck
3. Possibly some letterboxes in Woods Hole
4. Movies with my friend Bonnie (Yeah - Grown-up time)
