I do not know anything about golf but my sister said it would be fun and I would love to help these old family friends who I have always called Aunt and Uncle. The event was a fundraiser in which they donate back to the UMass Lowell fraternity that their son attended. He unfortunately passed away a little over 3 years ago and was only about 35.
When we arrived we were given the task of selling "do-overs" for the 8th hole. This was a hole that was also measured for the longest drive so it was in their best interest to shoot their best as the winner got a crisp 100 dollar bill.
We were advised we would be parked at the 8th hole so we should get some beverages for our stay and head out to find our spot. Let me explain that this was not the kind of Golf course I expected. It was a regular persons golf course. No fuss-no muss. Yes, this is what we got for 14 bucks-a 6pack of American beer on ice and yes this was how they served it to us-bag and ice and beer. Perfect for 2 Cape Cod girls to pass the afternoon with.
What a great group of people. We were actually educated that a "do-over" is really a Mulligan. That brought some laughs to 2 non-golf girls. Now I am thinking there are so many places in life that you should be allowed a Mulligan, and if they are only a buck, even better.
After an excellent dinner of steak, potato, corn on the cob and salad they said a few words and the guests were invited to write a note to Michael on a balloon and release it into the evening sky.
The sale of Mulligan's, raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets raised a decent amount of money. I was happy to see the winner of the 50/50 raffle put his $360 winnings as well as the winners of the $100 longest drive back into the cause. Hopefully these dollars will help someone from Michael's fraternity that really needs it.
Great Day!
